Try Sri Lankan dishes at Sydney Hotel. Just outside the fort walls close to Galle’s raucous bus station sits the unassuming yet utterly charming Sydney Hotel, split into three parts: local bar, basic restaurant and a separate takeaway area. It’s the place to go for a relaxed, truly authentic dining experience and serves the tastiest kottu I found during my extended travels through the country. The typical Sri Lankan dish, made with shredded roti, vegetables and lots of chilli, is flavoursome and generously portioned, while the fried rice is delicious, too. Mains start from $3. @sydney_hotel_galle
